Catching up.
So much is happening, has happened, will happen. But as is my motto-don't wait, start from now.
So.
Today was amazing.
It was a focused day, close to home. We went to the Pantheon and Michael provided an extensive lesson on the building; a popular topic to all who know Rome, but one which is actually rife with inconsistencies.
It was like hearing your favorite story told in a completely different way- (think the truth of Pocahontas or the Brothers Grimm.) A convenient sort of "truth" is accepted about what the Pantheon is, why it's name is even the Pantheon, who built it and what it is built for. I'm still wrapping my head around the lecture, but Michael dove into the inconsistencies.

We learned to be junior archeologists, noting simple facts that our eyes tell us about the building as opposed to simply accepting watered down accounts from text books which are summaries of summaries at best.

Also, a fun fact I learned about the building today is that at noon on the day the city was established, April 21, the sunlight from the occulus fills the threshold framing the distant obelisk and city. What a glorious moment and it made for some snazzy pictures.

P.S. I vow to write every night. It helps me refine my thoughts anyway.
